The principal business activities and their associated codes list is designed to classify a business by the type of activity in which it is engaged and is based on the North American Industry Classification System and is the same list used by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Using the list of activities and codes, determine from which activity the company derives the largest percentage of its "Annual Gross Receipts". If the company purchases raw materials and supplies them to a subcontractor to produce the finished product, but retains title to the product, the company is considered a manufacturer and must use one of the manufacturing codes.
