TranPlan 21 Amendment

In 2005, Congress passed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). SAFETEA-LU and the subsequent federal regulations released in February 2007 included several new planning requirements that require a limited amendment to TranPlan 21, Montana’s statewide transportation policy plan. Some of these requirements include:
  • Additional use of enhanced visualization techniques in public involvement processes.
  • Consideration of transportation system security issues.
  • Incorporation of capital, operations and management strategies, investments, procedures, and other measures.
  • Consistency with other planning documents.
SAFETEA-LU established an aggressive deadline for states to modify their transportation plans to comply with the new federal requirements. MDT has therefore hired the consulting firm of Cambridge Systematics to help the Department complete the 2007 TranPlan 21 Amendment. The amendment effort will include opportunities for the general public and interested agencies and groups to participate.
