The Peoples Way is a 56.3 mile corridor on US 93 from Evaro to Polson that traverses the Flathead Indian Reservation.

The safety and road capacity improvements underway are a collective vision of MDT, the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation and the Federal Highway Administration. The Peoples Way sets a new standard for road design, commitment to the environment, and intergovernmental collaboration.

Current Construction Information

Mud Creek Structures
  • Project limits North and South bound, mile Post 50 to 51
  • This two-phase project includes construction of two bridges at Mud Creek
  • The first phase of this project that began in April of 2006 the second phase will be completed in 2007
  • The bridges being constructed will also act as wildlife crossings
  • Old Hwy 93 west of the intersection with US 93 is closed indefinitely
  • Activities will be taking place off the roadway, reduced speeds 35 mph
  • Be prepared for a reduced speed limit of 35 mph
  • This project is complete.

Spring Creek to Minesinger Trail
  • Project limits are from mile post 48.30 to 56.00
  • Project to begin September 4, 2007
  • This project will consist of re-construction resulting in a divided 4 lane through Pablo
  • Expect 35 mph speed limits, brief road closures, short delays, detours, portable stop lights.
  • Motorists should watch for trucks and equipment entering the roadway
  • Starting November 9, 2007 there will be intermittent daily road closures for Division Street, West Pablo Road and Minesinger Trail.
  • South of Mud Creek, Old HWY-93 is closed on the east and west side of US-93. There will be an alternative access via Light Road.
  • Starting March 18, 2008 Major Houle road will been closed for an extended period of time. Motorists will be advised of changes via portable message signs.
  • Beginning Monday April 7, 2008, Old Hwy-93 will be closed at the intersection with US 93 at mile marker 53.3 until further notice.
  • West Pablo Road will be closed starting April 8, 2008 for approximately 2 weeks. There will be alternate access to businesses via New Division Street and Light Road via Old Hwy 93.
  • Division street and approches on the west side of US 93 will be closed intermittently over the next 2 weeks for paving.
  • Chip Seal is wrapping up and striping is underway.Old 93 is now open on the east side south of Pablo.There will be short delays and reduced speeds

Evaro to McClure Road
  • Project limits begin at mile post 6.4 and extend North through Evaro, into the Flathead Nation and end at mile Post 12.8.
  • This project will consist of re-construction resulting in the extension of about 1.4 miles of the four-lane undivided roadway, two-lane roadway with turn and alternating passing lanes for north and southbound traffic, relocation of approximately one mile of MRL Railroad line in Evaro, ten wildlife crossing structures including a new bridge over the MRL Railroad near Joe's Smoke Ring and one wildlife over-crossing.
