Urban Crashes

Although rural crashes comprise the majority of fatal crashes in Montana, over 40 percent of Montana's total crashes occur in urban areas. And with increasing urbanization in the state, the proportion of fatal crashes in urban areas has increased steadily. This emphasis area's implementation efforts fall to the local governments, with support from MDT. Through the development of Community Safety Plans, local governments can identify and address safety issues unique to their area. These Community Safety Plans will coordinate with and approach safety in the same manner as the CHSP.

  • Total annual urban fatal crashes
  • Growth rate in urban fatal crashed (one-year and five-year)
