About the Airport
Yellowstone Airport is owned and operated by the Montana Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division. It is a large, commercial service airport located immediately adjacent to Yellowstone National Park next to the community of West Yellowstone, Montana.
This unique seasonal facility offers up to three daily commercial flights via Salt Lake City. In addition to being the closest and most convenient airport to Yellowstone National Park, the airport offers rental cars and ground transportation, a full-service Fixed Base of Operation (FBO) with both general aviation and jet fueling services, and food service.
The airport is open from approximately June through September when it closes for the season due to heavy snowfall.
Winter Use of the Airport
NATC is a Nevada-based engineering and testing firm specializing in tire tread and wear testing. NATC tests snow and cold conditions on a wide range of other products as well. In order to preserve the specially groomed snow for testing, and in the interest of safety, winter-time flight operations at Yellowstone Airport cease, unless the flight operator receives prior written consent from either airport management or NATC.
For information about possible winter time airport flight operations, please contact airport management at 406.646.7631 (April 1 - November 30) or 406-444-2506 (December 1 - March 31).
