Bench Boulevard Project

Active Project - Bench Boulevard Project

Bench Boulevard - Hilltop to Pemberton

Construction Status

For the week of May 9, crews will be working from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Knife River recommends planning for brief delays, side street closures, short-term driveway impacts, and detours for local residents.

Starting the week of May 9, there will be a full closure, with local access, from Hilltop Road to Heights Lane as crews begin installing storm drain facilities. This will last for several weeks. Residents of Birch Lane, Dreamers Loop and Heights Lane will need to enter from the north end of this zone on Bench. Residents of Shawnee Dr. will have access via Main Street. Through traffic is advised to use Main Street, Hilltop Road, Logan Lane, Wicks Lane or Hawthorne Lane in order to avoid traffic congestion and delays. Gainan’s will be available at Hilltop Rd.

Knife River will also continue gravel placement as well as new curb and sidewalks from Barrett to Pemberton. This stretch should be paved by early May. Pemberton Lane is still closed at Bench, and Heights Vet Clinic as well as private residences can be accessed from the South end of the Pemberton/Barrett closure.

Having finished work on the north half, Centurylink and Rocky Mountain Contractors will continue the relocation of phone lines and the removal of the old phone poles from Wicks Lane to Hilltop over the next few weeks.

Additionally, all improvements to irrigation facilities are now complete and in operation.

Knife River is committed to limiting delays and detours whenever possible. We appreciate the partnership of the Heights community in adhering to all signage and flaggers while we work to create a safer roadway and neighborhood. Please be aware that fines do double in work zones.

While crews work between Barrett and Pemberton, residents of the following streets can anticipate moderate detours:

  • Access to the interconnected streets, Kale Drive, Betsy Drive and Mossman Drive from Bench will vary as work continues. Between the three streets, one to two will be open at all times. This detour is expected to last for a few more weeks. Delays at this access point will be a maximum of 15 minutes and crew will work to minimize delays during the morning rush hour.
  • Caroline Street will be closed at Bench Boulevard – residents are advised to use Hawthorne Lane.
