Frequently Asked Questions

When is this project scheduled to be built?
Design is nearly complete for the project and Right-of-Way negotiations will commence in the near future. The project will be advertised and awarded to a contractor for construction as soon as environmental permits are obtained, right of way negotiations are complete, and funding is available. The majority of the work will be completed in one season.

It should be noted that MDT's Tentative Construction Plan includes Ready Dates through 2010 and target dates through 2014. It's reasonable to expect dates on projects beyond 2010 to move up or back due to variables including environmental permitting, funding, design, right-of-way acquisition, and utility relocation. These variables are often beyond MDT's control, but the Department does everything possible to keep projects moving toward target dates.

Who will be paying for this project? Will there be any tax levies to help fund this project?
This project will be funded completely with Federal and State dollars. There will be no county, city, or private funds needed to fund this project. There will be no tax levies implemented for this project.

Were traffic signals considered at any of the intersections?
Yes, traffic signals were evaluated at all four of the intersections. However, traffic signals are not considered the fix-all in the realm of traffic and highway design. Traffic signals must meet specific "warrants", or criteria, to be justified. None of the required warrants are met at any of the four intersections. All four intersections are operating at a high level of service with minimal delays, so traffic signals would not be a wise use of limited funds and will not be installed at this time.

Is there anything that can be done about Country Garden Drive?
Yes! MDT's Traffic and Safety Bureau researched the feasibility of including work on Country Garden Drive in the project. It has been determined that this work does qualify to use Safety Funds. A preliminary analysis shows that Country Garden Drive will be relocated to the east to get away from the irrigation ditch. Details on this design can be viewed under the Affected Intersections portion on this website.
