Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Safety Improvement Project on U.S. Highway
93 in Whitefish

Whitefish ó The Montana Department of Transportation
(MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal
to install safety improvements on U.S. Highway 93 (U.S. 93) in
Whitefish. The proposed project is located in Flathead County on U.S.
93 at the intersection with 13th Street in Whitefish, beginning at
reference post 126.8 and extending to reference post 127.1.

The
proposed project has been nominated to provide intersection and
signal upgrades at 13th Street and U.S. 93 in Whitefish. The proposed
improvements will change the configuration of 13th Street by
realignment and installation of exclusive left turn lanes. The
project will also include upgraded pedestrian facilities including a
crosswalk on the north leg (U.S. 93) and upgraded pedestrian ramps
and APS pushbuttons at all corners to meet current and Americans with
Disabilities Act standards. The project is needed to upgrade the
intersectionís capacity and operations.

The project is tentatively
scheduled for construction in the summer of 2019, depending on
completion of all project development activities and availability of
funding. Right-of-way may be required. Utility relocations may be
necessary.
