Plains - Safety Project For S-471, S-472, MT-200 And MT-135

Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Safety Improvements on Secondary Highways
471 and 472 and Montana Highways 200 and 135

Thompson Falls, St.
Regis, Plains and Trout Creek — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek
comments on a proposal to install safety improvements on Secondary
Highways 471 (S-471) and 472 (S-472) and Montana Highways 200
(MT-200) and 135 (MT-135) in the Thompson Falls, Trout Creek, St
Regis and Plains areas in Sanders and Mineral counties. The proposed
project includes the following work at five sites: 

• Site 1 — S-472
(Blue Slide Road) north of Thompson Falls: Install delineation, paint
centerline, add mile markers, and update curve warning signs at
reference post 11.5. 

• Site 2 —MT-200 north of Trout Creek: Install
delineation, centerline rumble strips, and a westbound curve warning
sign with an actuated flasher at reference post 23.

• Site 3— MT-200
northwest of Plains: Install guardrail delineation tabs and
centerline rumble strips through the curves at reference posts 70.7
and 72.9.

• Site 4 — MT-135 east of St Regis: Install curve warning
and chevron signs at reference post 13.9.

• Site 5 — S-471 southwest
of Thompson Falls: Install curve warning and chevron signs at
reference posts 0.4 and 0.6.

The purpose of the proposed work is to
enhance roadway safety for the traveling public by providing enhanced
curve-related safety features as outlined above.

The project is
tentatively scheduled for construction in the summer of 2018,
depending on completion of all project development activities and
availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations
are anticipated.
