Leaders continue to strategize to improve traffic
safety

Helena, Mont. (April 25, 2017) – Montana’s Comprehensive
Highway Safety Plan Executive Leadership Team, comprised of state
government and organization officials will convene Thursday, April 27
with a full agenda including discussion on the outcome of the 2017
Montana Legislative session. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. –
12 p.m. at the Montana Department of Transportation Commission Room,
2701 Prospect Avenue in Helena.

“We have a lot to discuss when it
comes to saving lives and eliminating serious injuries on Montana
roads,” said Mike Tooley, director of the Montana Department of
Transportation. “We have a diverse group of leaders who can take
actions to move toward Vision Zero.”

The ELT is comprised of leaders
from the Governor’s Office, Office of Indian Affairs, Attorney
General, Montana Highway Patrol, 13th Judicial Court, Department of
Corrections, Court Administrator’s Office, Montana Sheriff’s and
Peace Officers Association, Office of the State Public Defender,
Montana League of Cities and Towns, Montana Association of Counties,
Montana County Attorney Association, Office of Public Instruction,
Department of Revenue, and the Montana Tavern Association.

So far,
this year, 36 people have died on Montana roads compared with 52 this
time last year. Even though this is a decrease, the aim is to reach
Vision Zero, zero deaths and zero serious injuries, because not even
one fatality or serious injury is acceptable.
