Speeding

Speed has been listed as a contributing factor in Montana crashes over 12,000 times from 2006 to 2010.

Speeding is often related to impairment: in the last five years (2006-2010), almost 60% of the speeding-related fatalities in Montana were also alcohol-related.

A review of Montana Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) data shows that speed is the most frequently addressed traffic violation. A total of 11,332 citations and warnings were issued for speed violations in FFY 2011, directly as a result of STEP.

OUR GOALS
  • Reduce number of speeding-related fatalities to 85 by 2013.
  • Reduce speeding-related fatal crashes to 35% by 2013.
