Use Your Freedom to Make the Right Choice
Fourth of July is a time for us to gather with friends and family, and celebrate the great freedoms we enjoy in this country. After the food, festivities and fireworks are over you have the freedom to choose how you’ll get home. If you’ve been drinking, will you make the right choice?
90 people lost their lives in 2015 in crashes where alcohol was a factor. This year, approximately 50 percent of the fatal crashes on Montana roads have involved alcohol. When you choose to drive impaired, you risk your life and the lives of others on the road.
If you’re thinking about not planning ahead this weekend, ask yourself these questions first:
Are you ready to lose your life after driving impaired and crashing your vehicle? Are you ready to live with your choice as a constant reminder of why you can’t walk or are otherwise physically limited? Are you ready to live with the guilt of knowing your choice took someone’s life?
If you’re not ready to live with these consequences, than you need to make the right choice.
So make a plan, and choose to not drive impaired! If you’re going to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, know how you’re getting home or where you can stay. If you see a family member or friend trying to drive after drinking, say something! Reaching Vision Zero requires ALL of us to make zero deaths and zero serious injuries on Montana roads our personal goal.
