Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River are upgrading five intersections on 7th Avenue North in Bozeman. The project begins at the intersection of 7th Avenue North and West Main Street and continues north, ending near the 7th Avenue North and Nikles Drive/Wheat Drive intersection. This project will also widen two intersecting roads, Peach Street and Oak Street, to better facilitate the flow of traffic.

Improvements include:

  • Upgrading signals and sidewalks to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant
  • Widening Peach Street to provide a dedicated westbound left turn lane
  • Widening Oak Street to restore the shoulder
  • Crack sealing and adding a seal and cover (chip seal) on 7th Avenue North between West Main Street and the Nikles Drive/Wheat Drive intersection
  • Milling and paving sections of the road with deep ruts
  • Applying final pavement markings

Why is this project needed?

This project will address increasing traffic congestion and wear and tear on this section of roadway. The project aims to enhance traffic flow along 7th Avenue North and improve the alignment and operation of intersecting side streets. Additionally, the crack seal, chip seal, and resurfacing work will address wear and tear on the roadway and ensure the road can continue to serve the traveling public. Additional upgrades to nearby sidewalks will enhance safety for pedestrian traffic.
