May 26-30, 2025

Hello Kalispell friends and neighbors,

The Montana Department of Transportation, in partnership with Pavement Maintenance Services, Inc., are conducting roadway improvements on the Kalispell Bypass Alternate US Highway 93 (Alt US 93).

Project work will pause the week of May 26 and resume on Monday, June 2.

Beginning June 2, work will include:

On the north end of the project, crews will conduct milling and paving operations. Speeds are reduced and one traffic lane will be open in each direction.

Milling and paving will also occur on the south end of the project; however, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Drivers can expect reduced speeds and signals. Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible.

The project corridor extends from West Reserve Drive, heading south for four miles, and ends just past the southern Ashley Creek Bridge. Due to a variation in the settlement at the bridge ends, crews will adjust and repave each end of the bridge to meet new requirements and standards. This differential settlement is caused by the ground beneath the bridge approaches settling differently than the bridge structure. This causes bumps, dips, and uneven surfaces between the bridge and the road.

All scheduled work is dependent on weather, material availability, and other unforeseen factors.

The purpose of this project is to prolong and preserve the condition of the existing pavement.

100 Deadliest Days: A Reminder Stay Safe and Vigilant in Your Summer Travels
For many Montanans, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the start of summer travel, culminating with Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, these summer months can also be some of the deadliest on Montana’s roads due to increased motor vehicle crashes. This period is known nationally as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” and has historically represented an increase in crashes and crash fatalities on our roadways due to greater traffic volumes and clear travel conditions that lower drivers’ guards.

Before you make plans to travel this summer, commit to safe, lawful behavior and remain vigilant in sharing Montana’s roadways with all system users. Never operate a motor vehicle while impaired. If you’re driving a vehicle, buckle up before you go and insist your friends and family do the same. Using your seat belt is your best defense against serious injury or death in the event you’re in a crash. This is a Vision Zero Message from the Montana Department of Transportation. The Montana Department of Transportation, in partnership with Pavement Maintenance Services, Inc., continues roadway improvements on the Kalispell Bypass Alternate US Highway 93 (Alt US 93). During the week of May 12, work includes crack sealing and paving operations, scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Crack sealing is a preventative maintenance technique in which cracks in the asphalt or concrete are sealed to prevent water and other debris from entering and causing further damage. Crack sealing extends the pavement life, improves the appearance of the road, and is a cost-effective measure that helps deter future extensive repairs.

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction. Drivers should expect reduced speeds of 35 mph, lane reductions, and potential delays. Please be alert and watch for equipment and workers in the construction zone.
