Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Morrison-Maierle (MMI), is improving pedestrian facilities along Railroad Avenue in Alberton.
This Transportation Alternatives (TA) project will upgrade crosswalks and install updated signage to enhance safety and accessibility for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Railroad Avenue is Alberton’s primary roadway and provides access to homes, schools, and local businesses. While Alberton is a small community, this corridor serves as a vital route for daily travel. Over time, pedestrian routes along Railroad Avenue have deteriorated and no longer meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
The project will revitalize outdated pedestrian infrastructure and provide safer connections for people walking, biking, and using mobility devices.
Design for the project will be completed in 2026, and construction is anticipated to begin in 2027, depending on the availability of funding and other unforeseen factors.
Additional details regarding timelines and construction phasing will be shared prior to the start of work.
This project reflects MDT’s continued commitment to maintaining and improving transportation infrastructure that supports safe, accessible travel for all Montanans.
