Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Schellinger Construction will begin roadway improvements on U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) near Essex in June. The Stanton – Essex Pavement Preservation project will improve approximately 12 miles of roadway, beginning near Stanton Creek and extending southeast to just beyond the Middle Fork Flathead River bridge.
Work will include milling and replacing asphalt, applying a seal and cover (chip seal), installing rumble strips, completing bridge repairs, updating pavement markings, and upgrading guardrail.
Motorists should expect single-lane closures, reduced speeds, and minor delays when traveling through active work zones. Please plan ahead, follow posted signage, and watch for workers and equipment throughout the project area. Work is expected to continue for approximately six months, weather and other factors permitting.
Crews are anticipated to work daytime hours during active construction. Specific schedules and activities will be shared as construction approaches.
Keeping good roads good is a sound financial investment that minimizes traffic impacts over the long term. Pavement preservation extends the life of the roadway with minimal costs and fewer disruptions.
