The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Prince, Inc. crews continue progressing on the West of Jordan project. Dirt work is underway on the roadside, and there is minimal to no disruption to traffic.
Crews will pause construction activities for the Memorial Day weekend starting at 3 p.m. today, Friday, May 23, and resume on Tuesday, May 27.
All work is dependent on weather and other unforeseen factors.
Flowing Well East & West
Construction activities are currently paused on the Flowing Wells East & West project. Central Specialties, Inc. crews will resume excavation operations in July.
For more information on the Highway 200 Jordan to Brockway project, visit the project webpage.
When traveling through both construction zones, drivers should expect traffic control measures, lane reconfigurations, and reduced speed limits.
A Motorcycle Advisory is in effect for both areas, as gravel surfaces may pose added concerns for motorcycles. Motorcyclists are strongly encouraged to take an alternate route.
100 Deadliest Days: A Reminder Stay Safe and Vigilant in Your Summer Travels
For many Montanans, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the start of summer travel, culminating with Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, these summer months can also be some of the deadliest on Montana’s roads due to increased motor vehicle crashes. This period is known nationally as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” and has historically represented an increase in crashes and crash fatalities on our roadways due to greater traffic volumes and clear travel conditions that lower drivers’ guards.
Before you make plans to travel this summer, commit to safe, lawful behavior and remain vigilant in sharing Montana’s roadways with all system users. Never operate a motor vehicle while impaired. If you’re driving a vehicle, buckle up before you go and insist your friends and family do the same. Using your seat belt is your best defense against serious injury or death in the event you’re in a crash. This is a Vision Zero Message from the Montana Department of Transportation. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its contractor, Prince, Inc., will begin work on the West of Jordan project on Thursday, April 24. This project will improve about 9 miles of Montana Highway 200 (MT 200), starting 12 miles east of Sand Springs (mile marker 192.2) and ending 12 miles west of Jordan (mile marker 201).
Improvements include widening the highway to feature 12-foot travel lanes and five-foot shoulders, resurfacing the roadway, adding rumble strips, installing additional signage, and updating pavement markings. This project also involves improving the Big Dry Creek Bridge, including repairing the bridge deck and upgrading the guardrail.
The project is anticipated to be completed in 2026. This schedule is subject to change due to contractor availability, weather, and other unforeseen factors.
Travelers in the region will also be impacted by the Flowing Wells East & West project, currently under construction. This project will reconstruct about 7 miles of MT 200, beginning approximately 2 miles west of the Flowing Wells Rest Area and extending east, crossing the intersection of MT 200 with Montana Highway 24 (MT 24).
When traveling through both construction zones, drivers should expect traffic control measures, lane reconfigurations, and reduced speed limits. There may be short delays of up to 15 minutes.
Regular project updates will be provided throughout construction.
