The 27th Street Improvements project is scheduled to begin construction in September 2019. The project includes new asphalt for approximately 3 miles of 27th Street through the heart of downtown Billings, from the 27th Street Bridge over I-90 to just south of the Airport Road roundabout. This road provides primary access not only to the downtown Billings businesses, but also the medical corridor (Riverstone Health, Billings Clinic, and SCL Health), MSU-B, and the airport.
The project includes rehabilitation (mill and overlay) of the asphalt roadway, upgrades of curbs to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, replacement of all existing streetlights with LED lights, and replacement of signals at 11 intersections. New signing and striping is also included.
The 27th Street Improvement project maintains and improves the condition of the roadway and extends the service life/quality of 27th Street. It also improves ADA and overall pedestrian access, and upgrades signal systems and lighting, increasing overall safety in the Billings downtown corridor.
Construction is expected to take two full seasons (2019 and 2020), resulting in completion the fall of 2020.
