On the 6th Street NW/SW Roadway Resurfacing project in Great Falls, northbound traffic remains shifted to the southbound lanes just past the Sun River Bridge. This crossover traffic pattern will stay in place while work continues. Please watch for cones, yield signs, and crews as you travel through the crossover.
This week, pavement installation and grading will begin in the crossover section of the project, between the Sun River Bridge and American Avenue.
Gas line installation is ongoing and will require temporary detours.
- While crews work near 9th Avenue SW, traffic will be detoured to 10th Avenue SW.
- As crews move to 10th Avenue SW, traffic will be detoured to 9th Avenue SW.
Storm sewer and utility work is in progress. The south intersection of 6th Street SW and Crescent Circle remains closed. It is expected to reopen in about a month. In the meantime, access is available from the north intersection.
If paving on 6th Street SW cannot proceed due to weather or other unforeseen factors, repair work will continue on 6th Street NW. Expect single-lane closures with crews and equipment present. Only one lane will be closed at a time to maintain traffic flow.
To accommodate holiday traffic over Memorial Day weekend, no work will occur from Friday afternoon, May 23, through Monday, May 26. Normal work hours will resume Tuesday, May 27.

Construction continues on the 6th Street NW/SW Roadway Resurfacing project between 10th Avenue South and American Avenue. This is the only active work zone in the project area at this time.
Crews have started removing the concrete pavement, and northbound traffic has shifted onto the southbound lanes just past the Sun River Bridge. This crossover will remain in place for the foreseeable future while work continues on the northbound side. Please follow all posted signage and use caution in the work zone.
Over the next several days:
- Concrete removal will continue heading south.
- Gas line replacement is expected to begin.
- The south intersection of 6th Street SW and Crescent Circle may temporarily close for storm drain work. Watch for signage and crews in the area.
Surveying may continue along other parts of the corridor to prepare for future repairs.
Looking ahead to the week of May 12, resurfacing work may begin in the other sections of the corridor. We will provide more details as work progresses.
April 28, 2025
This week, work will continue on the 6th Street NW/SW Roadway Resurfacing project, with crews focused on the section between 10th Avenue South and American Avenue. This is the only area currently under construction.
Crews will begin breaking pavement and removing medians in this section of the project. Northbound and southbound traffic patterns will initially be unchanged, but single-lane restrictions will be in place and may change daily. Please watch for cones and signage.
You may also see crews surveying in other parts of the corridor to prepare for upcoming repairs. Please drive carefully and watch for workers and vehicles.
A traffic crossover may happen as early as this Friday or Saturday. When it begins, northbound traffic will shift to the southbound lanes just after the bridge. This will become the long-term traffic pattern while crews work on the northbound side.
Thank you for your continued patience and safe driving as this project moves forward.
