Butte Urban Pavement Preservation map

This project will rehabilitate segments of Excelsior Avenue, Park Street, Grand Avenue, Amherst Avenue, Elizabeth Warren Avenue, Four Mile Road, Utah Avenue, Electric Street, Western Boulevard, Shields Avenue, and Farrell Street.

Planned improvements include:

  • Removing and replacing the top layer of pavement.
  • Crack sealing the roadway.
  • Replacing guardrail.
  • Seal and cover (chip seal) the roadway.
  • New pavement markings.

Each road has been evaluated and will receive select improvements from the list above.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024 and be completed in a single construction season.

Why is the project needed?

MDT determined that these roads are worn down and in need of repairs. This project will extend the service life of these roads and provide a smoother driving surface for many years to come.

What to expect during construction

Due to the nature of this project, traffic controls will vary on a case-by-case basis.

Anticipated traffic control:

  • Flaggers or traffic sensing smart signals may direct traffic.
  • Reduced speed limits.
  • Expect delays.
  • On street parking may be briefly disrupted during road work.
  • Wide loads may be restricted on a case-by-case basis for the roadways. Visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information.

Stay Informed During Construction

MDT will notify the public about traffic impacts and work activities through the project website, local media, social media, and email and text notifications during construction.

Current construction information and road conditions can be found on the MDT Travel Info App.
