Construction Update – Roundabout Open to Public
- Expect chip seal work to be completed in summer 2019 along with final pavement markings.
MDT thanks you for your patience throughout the construction of the roundabout.
The intersection of Cottonwood and Stucky roads, just west of Bozeman, is being replaced with a new single-lane roundabout. Construction is slated for late June through early fall 2018. The intersection will be fully closed to through traffic during construction.
A new roundabout design at Cottonwood and Stucky roads addresses safety concerns and increases capacity as part of plans for future growth in west Bozeman. In 2016, approximately 4,700 vehicles traveled through the intersection every day. By 2036, the number of vehicles per day at this location is expected to double.
The new roundabout includes the addition of sidewalks and bicycle lanes to accommodate future pedestrian and bicycle facilities on Cottonwood and Stucky roads. As a single-lane design, it will be similar in size to the roundabout in Bozeman at 11th and College streets.
Roundabouts have been proven to minimize the amount and severity of accidents by eliminating right-angle impacts and reducing the number of conflict points. This design also enhances the capability of an intersection while simultaneously providing a traffic calming effect.
How to get around during construction
Construction phasing, scheduling and traffic impacts are dependent on weather. MDT will notify the community through the media, updates to this website, and email notifications if closure or detour route changes are made. Check MDT Travel Info for real-time updates.
