This week, crews will continue working on the drainage bridge just west of Ingomar (Bridge ID 5496), at mile marker 229 on U.S. Highway 12. They will install additional box culvert sections and backfill around them at this site. Backfilling consists of putting soil around the new sections to support them and help them stay in place.

A shoofly detour remains in place to guide traffic safely around the work zone. The new box culvert at this location is partially installed, and work this week focuses on completing the installation.

In addition to ongoing work at Bridge 5496, crews will continue off-road preparation at the drainage ditch 2 miles northwest of West Blacktail Road (Bridge ID 5497), at mile marker 236.

These are the only active sites in the project area at this time.

Please reduce your speed, follow signage, and remain alert when traveling through the area. Your patience helps ensure a safe work zone for everyone.

This week, crews will remove the existing bridge structure at Bridge ID 5496, located just west of Ingomar at mile marker 229. A shoofly detour is now in place to keep traffic moving safely around the work zone.

A new box culvert at this location is partially in place, which is part of the Montana Department of Transportation's (MDT) plan for bridge construction to proceed in stages, with the current detour in place over the new structure. This method avoids fully removing the roadway at once, helping minimize disruption for drivers. Temporary detours will be used as needed, rather than a permanent closure.

This is the only active work site in the project area at this time.

Please slow down, follow signage, and use the temporary detours.

To accommodate holiday traffic over Memorial Day weekend, no work will occur from Friday afternoon, May 23, through Monday, May 26. Normal work hours will resume Tuesday, May 27.

Respect the zone, so we all get home.

In 2023, 282 work zone crashes occurred in Montana. This construction season, MDT urges Montana drivers and visitors to use extra caution while traveling through work zones by paying attention and following posted signage.

Our families thank you.
