Glover Road and US 93 Safety Improvements project logo

November 3 2023

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner Riverside Contracting Inc. have completed the Glover Road and US Highway 93 (US 93) Safety Improvements project! This will be the final update.

This project was a dual effort to enhance safety features on both Glover Road and US 93. Guardrail and signage were added to the curves on Glover Road at the canal crossing, in addition to a flashing yellow light that alerts travelers of the approaching roadway curves and bridge.

Pavement preservation work was also completed on US 93 as a part of this safety project from north of Ronan to north of Pablo.

Thank you for your patience as crews finish work on the Glover Road and US Highway 93 (US 93) Safety Improvements project.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner Riverside Contracting Inc. substantially completed construction this summer.

Crews will return the week of October 23 and October 30 to install signage along US 93, weather permitting. This work will occur on the highway shoulder and will not majorly impact traffic. Once signage has been installed, the project will be substantially complete.

Slow Down, Montana! Safe, Cautious Driving Saves Lives
Speeding and other reckless driving behaviors create unsafe conditions for you and others traveling Montana’s roads. Even if you are abiding by posted speed limits, you can still be traveling too fast for safety – particularly in inclement weather, low/no light conditions, or around emergency response or work zone sites. One simple and effective way to protect all roadway users is to lower your speed when driving a motor vehicle. In the event of a crash, the higher the speed of the vehicle(s) involved, the more deadly the collision – especially when a vulnerable roadway user is involved (pedestrian, bicyclist, motorcyclist, etc.). While driving a motor vehicle, remember to always follow posted speed limits, adjusting your speed as needed for current conditions, and keep your focus on the road ahead and the task of driving to help ensure we all reach our destinations safely. Regular pavement preservations allow for fewer traffic delays, saves money, and ensures the road stays in good condition for years to come.

100 Deadliest Days: A Reminder to Stay Safe and Vigilant in Your Summer Travels
For many Montanans, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the start of summer travel, culminating with Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, these summer months can also be some of the deadliest on Montana’s roads due to increased motor vehicle crashes. This period is known nationally as the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” and has historically represented an increase in crashes and crash fatalities on our roadways due to greater traffic volumes and clear travel conditions that lower drivers’ guards. Before you make plans to travel this summer, commit to safe, lawful behavior and remain vigilant in sharing Montana’s roadways with all system users. Never operate a motor vehicle while impaired. If you’re driving a vehicle, buckle up before you go and insist your friends and family do the same. Using your seat belt is your best defense against serious injury or death in the event you’re in a crash. This is a Vision Zero Message from the Montana Department of Transportation. Building Connections to Bring Montana Together – Good Roads Day is June 20, 2023

If you’re traveling in Montana, chances are good you’ll need a road to help reach your destination. There are over 73,000 miles of roads open to public travel in our state, including nearly 13,000 miles of MDT routes, that accommodate over 13 billion annual vehicle miles traveled (AVMT). Simply put, roads and roadways (including bridges) keep our great state connected and moving forward! The third Tuesday in June marks Good Roads Day. This important date was designated by the Montana Legislature in 1947, whereby the people of the state are asked to contribute toward the improvement and safety of public highways (MCA 60-1-104). For MDT, building “good roads” takes time and means a continuous planning process that is underway long before ground is ever broken on a project. It can take eight years to complete a road project, but long-range planning starts (depending on the project) 1-20 years prior to the project start date. As transportation needs outpace revenue 3 to 1, MDT focuses on safety and preserving and maintaining transportation infrastructure as top priorities; in other words, keeping Montana’s good roads in good order. Join MDT in celebrating Good Roads Day on June 20, 2023, and share what #GoodRoads mean to you! Find more facts about funding and Montana’s roads in MDT’s Fact Book.

We hope you are enjoying the sunny weather. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) in partnership with Riverside Contracting continue roadwork on the Glover Road and US 93 project.

Thank you for your patience as seal and cover (chip seal) operations were completed last week. We recognize that the delays were long and assure you that roadwork is close to being completed.

This coming week, drivers can expect to see crews off the roadway completing signage installation. This work will not impact traffic.

In approximately one month, crews will return to place the final roadway epoxy. Updates will be provided as this date approaches.

Crews remain present in the area 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please be mindful of other drivers, equipment and crew members in the area.

In partnership with Riverside Contracting, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) continues roadwork on the Glover Road and US Highway 93 (US 93) project. Here is this week’s update.

Drivers can expect to see crews seal and cover (chip seal) operations US 93 beginning at Spring Creek Road and ending just north of Minesinger Trail Road. Chip sealing is a pavement surface treatment that combines one or more layers of asphalt in addition to small aggregate or “chips.” The chips are then compacted to improve tire adherence to the roadway.

Additionally, crews remain on Glover Road finalizing guardrail installation.

Traffic control will be in place throughout the work zone. Crews are present 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers can anticipate 10 to – 15-minute delays when traveling through the project area.

This summer’s pavement preservation work on US 93 includes crack sealing, chip sealing, and fog sealing. Thin layers of asphalt will be applied to the roadway and portions of the Minesinger shared-use path to add life and longevity to the existing pavement. Updated pavement markings and signage will also be completed. Routine maintenance is required to extend the service life of the roadway.

Upcoming improvements on Glover Road include adding signage to the curves on Glover Road at the canal crossing. A yellow flashing light will also be installed for eastbound vehicles to alert travelers of the roadway curves and canal bridge. These additions are intended to enhance safety for travelers and help prevent vehicles from going off the roadway.
