The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River are continuing construction on approximately 3 miles of Interstate 90 (I-90) between the North Rouse Avenue overpass and the Fort Ellis Road overpass.

Fencing on the project is nearing completion and work on the metal bridge rail is anticipated to continue for the next few weeks.

Crews will stop work by noon on July 3 and will return on Monday, July 8. Traffic control will remain up throughout the Independence Day holiday weekend, but no work will take place.

Work is expected to be completed in late summer.

What motorists should expect during construction:

  • Crossover traffic patterns on I-90.
  • Both east and westbound traffic traveling on the same side of I-90.
  • Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Flaggers or temporary signals directing traffic at times.
  • Reduced speed limits.
  • Wide load restrictions.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River will be closing the Interstate 90 (I-90) eastbound off-ramp at the Main Street Interchange (Exit 309) the morning of Monday, May 20. This closure is anticipated to last only a few hours, weather and other factors permitting.

This closure will allow crews time to pave the section of I-90 that connects to this off-ramp. MDT will reopen the ramp as soon as the newly placed pavement is safe to drive on.

Motorists are encouraged to seek an alternative route during this time. Allow for extra travel time if this ramp is part of your normal morning commute.

Crews plan to begin removing and replacing the pavement on the Main Street Interchange (Exit 309) ramps the week of April 22.

Each of the ramps will be closed for approximately two days at a time to remove and replace the pavement. The ramps will not be closed simultaneously and will reopen as soon as the new pavement is safe to drive on. The ramp closures are anticipated to take two weeks to complete, weather and unforeseen factors permitting.

Crews are expected to start with the westbound on-ramp. Once work there is complete, they plan to move on to the westbound off-ramp, followed by the eastbound off-ramp, and finally the eastbound on-ramp.

On Interstate 90 (I-90), crews have begun constructing crossovers in the median. These preparations will allow all traffic to travel on the same side of I-90 while paving work is being performed on the opposite side.

Motorists should expect:

  • Crossover traffic patterns on I-90.
  • Both east and westbound traffic traveling on the same side of I-90.
  • Interchange ramp closures.
  • Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Flaggers or temporary signals directing traffic at times.
  • Reduced speed limits.
