The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and CK May Excavating plan to continue removing a large amount of rock on Interstate 90 (I-90) near Bozeman Pass the week of May 25. A second 30-minute closure of I-90 and the West Bozeman Hill Road / U.S. Highway 10 frontage road is necessary to complete controlled rock excavation operations. The closure is expected to take place on Thursday, May 29 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. MDT is unable to provide the specific time the 30-minute closure will occur due to nearby train activity on the BNSF railroad. Plan for delays of up to 1 hour if you have time-sensitive travel during the closure window. If additional 30-minute closures are necessary to remove the rock, advance notice will be provided to the public. Only one closure lasting 30 minutes is expected per day.

Once crews have completed rock removal and roadways are safe for motorists to travel on, roads will reopen in both directions under the existing single-lane closures with reduced speeds. Visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information on width restrictions and other traffic control.

What to expect during construction:

  • Flaggers directing traffic at times
  • I-90 traffic reduced to one lane in each direction
  • Reduced speed limits
  • Width restrictions
