This week on the US Highway 93 (US 93) Lolo to Missoula construction project, drivers can expect limited roadwork. Crews will periodically work on crash attenuator repair (process of restoring safety devices such as certain portions of guardrail that have become damaged over time) from October 27 to November 2. This will take place intermittently during the week between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.add time to your commute, as roadwork will occur in the daytime.
One lane of traffic on either side of US 93 will always be open. Speed reductions will be in effect during work hours. Please plan for delays and add time to your commute, as roadwork will occur in the daytime.

Final roadwork continues between Missoula and Lolo on US Highway 93 (US 93). The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Knife River and Riverside Contracting Inc., thank you for your understanding and patience.
Crews will continue finalizing sign installation, milepost replacements, electrical work, and pavement markings from October 13 to October 19. This will take place during the day between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. intermittently, as final work items are scheduled.

On behalf of the Montana Department of Transportation, Knife River, and Riverside Contracting Inc., there has been a slight schedule change.
Crews will be present between Missoula and Lolo from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to complete final striping activities. Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday evening, October 9 and continue into Thursday morning, weather and other factors permitting. This includes line striping and median symbols (arrows, etc.).
Traffic control devices will be present to direct drivers. Motorists should expect one lane on either side of US Highway 93 (US 93) to be closed. Speeds will be reduced in the work zone.

Nightwork for this coming week includes guardrail updates, US Hwy 93 shoulder work, and "grinding/fog sealing" which involves smoothing the pavement surface to help preserve the roadway. Roadwork will take place 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday evening through Saturday morning, weather and equipment permitting.
The week of September 22, crews will complete work on the "S curves" outside of Lolo between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Striping between Missoula and Lolo will also take place during the day. Please allow for additional travel time due to periodic daytime construction. Daytime work is taking place to ensure weather conditions are optimal for specific operations that require warmer temperatures.
This project supports MDT's priority to improve the US 93 corridor. The milling and paving process extends the lifespan of the pavement while enhancing safety features for all travelers between Missoula and Lolo. This project is focused on completing identified improvements that will enhance roadway safety while larger scale corridor improvements are considered. LABOR DAY: Crews will pause construction activities for the Labor Day weekend on the morning of Friday, August 30 and will resume the evening of Monday, September 2.
THIS WEEK:
From September 2 to September 6, drivers will continue to see crews, workers, and large equipment, milling and paving on US 93 between Missoula and Lolo from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday evening through Friday morning.
Crews are moving both north and south on US 93 in phases to mill and pave the highway. This will improve the longevity of the roadway over time. Milling this coming week will extend southbound towards Lolo.
Drivers may notice white striping on the roadway in the work zone. The purpose of these white lines is primarily for increased safety. These are temporary lines to discourage drivers from changing lanes due to the surface elevation difference. Striping patterns will return to normal once all paving is completed.

July 22 – 28, crews will be present from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting. Crews are working on median and utility adjustments in Lolo.
As work occurs, drivers can expect one lane of traffic on either side of US Highway 93 (US 93) during night work. All four lanes will be open during the day. However, speeds will be reduced all day and all night within the construction area. Traffic candles and barrels will be present to direct drivers.
Please be mindful of crews along the active work zone and plan for 15-minute delays. The safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians is of utmost importance.
COMING SOON:
Crews will begin work on the larger pavement preservation portion of the project in late July or early August, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting. They will start near Blue Mountain Road in Missoula and head south over the course of the project. Drivers can expect nighttime work from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday. Occasionally, daytime Sunday work will occur.
Please note that beginning in late July or early August, periodic closures on connecting roadways next to US 93 will be taking place throughout construction. These closures are noted in blue on the attached map. Initial closures will occur closest to Missoula at Blue Mountain Road, Old US Hwy 93, and Miller Creek Road. In partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation, Riverside Contracting and Knife River will begin minor work on the Lolo to Missoula pavement preservation project on Monday, July 8.
Crews will be present from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday evenings starting Monday, July 8 through the week of July 22, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
This initial roadwork in early to mid-July will include median adjustments and utility work near Lolo. Drivers may also experience crews present by Buckhouse Bridge and South Reserve Street completing initial utility work.
Drivers can expect one lane of traffic on either side of US Highway 93 (US 93) during active construction at night. All four lanes will be open during the day. However, speeds will be reduced all day and all night within the construction area (location subject to change as crews move down the highway over the course of the project). Crews will begin work on the larger pavement preservation portion of the project in late July or early August. They will start near Blue Mountain Road in Missoula and head south over the course of the project. Drivers can expect nighttime work from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Occasionally, daytime Sunday work will occur.
Please note that beginning in late July or early August, periodic closures on connecting roadways next to US 93 will be taking place throughout construction. These closures are noted in blue on the attached map. Initial closures will occur closest to Missoula at Blue Mountain Road, Old US Hwy 93, and Miller Creek Road. Each closure will take place for a few hours at a time either on a Sunday during the day or during night work. Closures will NOT take place on weekdays during the daytime.
These closures are necessary for milling work (moving of a concrete roadway material) that requires crews to create large dips in the roadway. While dips are being created and filled, it is unsafe for drivers to cross. Drivers will be detoured accordingly during closure periods. All area businesses and residences will be accessible. If you commute using the indicated roadways, below, please prepare for a few extra minutes of drive time at night or on Sunday.
