Construction on this project was completed in October 2024.
Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) partnered with Diamond J Construction to make improvements along North 7th Street/Montana Highway 59 (MT 59) from the intersection with Main Street to just past Secondary Highway 489 (S 489), also known as Kinsey Road.
The purpose of the project was to rehabilitate the existing roadway, enhance safety features, and reduce maintenance costs. To minimize impacts to the traveling public and avoid stretching work out over multiple construction seasons, the city of Miles City partnered with MDT to also update the underground water, sewer, and storm drain facilities in conjunction with MDT's roadway improvements.
Specific project improvements included:
- Reconstructing and widening the roadway south of the Yellowstone River bridge.
- Widening the shoulders, resurfacing the roadway, and adding new rumble strips north of the bridge.
- Upgrading existing sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps and replacing non-compliant ADA facilities.
- New pavement markings, signage, and guardrail throughout the project area.
- City utility improvements to the water main, sewer line, and stormwater facilities south of the bridge.
