  • Paving on North 7th Street is complete. Crews plan to begin striping the reconstructed roadway on Tuesday, October 8. Traffic control will include reduced speeds, disrupted street parking, and temporary intersection closures.
  • Underground utility upgrades, sidewalk, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp improvements have been installed.
  • New guardrail has been installed at both ends of the Yellowstone River bridge.

September 23, 2024

  • Paving on North 7th Street is complete.
  • Underground utility upgrades, sidewalk, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp improvements have been installed. Remaining concrete work includes constructing supports that transition the new roadway surface to the manholes.
  • Crews plan to install guardrail at each end of the Yellowstone River bridge this week.

  • Paving on North 7th Street/Montana Highway 59 (MT 59) is complete between the north end of the Yellowstone River bridge and Kinsey Road, and between Main Street and the railroad. Crews will return later this summer or in early fall to pave from the railroad to the south end of the bridge.
  • Crews plan to apply permanent, reflective pavement markings to the resurfaced roadway in mid-September. This work will require traffic control such as single-lane traffic, reduced speeds, and disrupted street parking.

  • Underground utility upgrades, sidewalk, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp improvements are in progress as work continues northward.
  • Paving on North 7th Street/Montana Highway 59 (MT 59) is complete between the north end of the Yellowstone River bridge and Kinsey Road.
  • Paving between Main Street and the railroad tracks is expected to begin this week. Crews will complete as much work as possible before the Fourth of July and will return later this summer or in early fall to finish the remaining paving.

  • Underground utility upgrades, improved grading, new sidewalk, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades are in progress as work continues northward.
  • Grading is complete north of the Yellowstone River bridge. Paving is expected to begin this week and will take approximately two weeks.
  • Paving on North 7th Street/Montana Highway 59 (MT 59) is expected to begin this week. While paving is in progress, work will occur between Main Street and the railroad tracks, and between the north end of the Yellowstone River bridge and Secondary Highway 489 (S 489).

  • Trucks are being diverted to the detour on North 5th Street for the duration of construction and must follow posted truck route and load restriction signage. Other vehicles are being directed to use the detour as North 7th Street closures require.
  • The 7th Street with Main Street intersection will be closed periodically to allow for signal light replacement and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades.
  • Sidewalk and ADA curb ramp upgrades are expected to begin the week of May 20 at the northeast and northwest corners of the Main Street with 7th Street intersection, near US Bank and Big Sky Pharmacy.

  • The detour on North 5th Street is active. Trucks are being diverted to the detour for the duration of construction. Other vehicles are using sections of the detour as North 7th Street closures require.
  • Throughout the project sections of the North 7th Street between the intersection with Main Street and the intersection with Williams Street will have temporary closures. Right now, the following sections of North 7th Street are closed for underground utility work:
    • Between Orr Street and Washington Street: Work will be at the alley crossing, so business and residential access will be available, but through traffic will be routed to the detour on North 5th Street.
    • South of Main Street to the alley south of Palmer Street: The Ugly Mug alley drive through remains accessible.
  • The 7th Street with Main Street intersection will be closed briefly, periodically to allow for signal light replacement and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades.
  • Sidewalk upgrades are expected to begin after the Bucking Horse Sale ends May 19.

  • Detour milling and paving is in progress on North 5th Street to accommodate additional traffic while North 7th Street is under construction. Once this is complete, trucks will be diverted to the detour for the duration of construction.
  • Sections of North 7th Street are expected to close for underground utility work the week of April 15th, between the south side of the Main Street with 7th Street intersection and Williams Street.
  • Once the underground utility work is completed at the 7th Street with Main Street intersection, the intersection will reopen to eastbound, westbound, and southbound traffic as work continues north of the intersection.
  • Sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades are expected to begin after Bucking Horse Sale.

April 1, 2024

Updates for the week of April 1, 2024:

  • Diamond J Construction will begin preparing the detour on North 5th Street in early April so it can be used as an alternate truck route while North 7th Street/MT 59 is under construction. Trucks will be directed to the detour throughout construction. All other traffic will be advised to use the detour only as needed.
  • Construction on the underground water main, sewer line, and storm drain system is expected to begin in mid-April at the intersection of North 7th Street/MT 59 with Main Street. Work will be completed in four-block segments and continue northward, toward the Yellowstone River bridge.
  • Sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades are expected to begin after Bucking Horse Sale (5/16 - 5/19).
  • Business access will be maintained throughout construction although there may be times when you will need to use an alternate entrance or side street parking. Businesses are encouraged to contact the project team with questions or to coordinate logistics related to business access by calling 888-242-7770 or emailing milescitynorthXYZdowlABCcom.
  • For safety purposes, the United States Postal Service (USPS) drop boxes on North 7th Street have been disabled for the duration of construction. There are five other USPS drop box locations in Miles City including Stockman Bank and the courthouse.

  • When construction is underway on North 7th Street/MT 59, trucks are to use the designated detour on North 5th Street between Main Street and Williams Street.
  • Non-truck traffic will be advised to use the detour route when there are temporary closures. Posted signage will advise drivers of these changes.
