Project Overview

The Mill Creek Highway project aims to enhance safety for the traveling public by softening some of the S-curves appearing along the roadway.

The Mill Creek Highway project is located in Anaconda/Deer Lodge County along Mill Creek Highway (State Highway 569) from RP 6.11 to RP 11. The project will include reconstruction of approximately 5 miles of roadway to address deficiencies and help enhance safety. The focus of the reconstruction is to widen lanes and shoulders and to straighten the “S” curves along Mill Creek Highway as much as is feasible.

A $19.3 million U.S. Department of Transportation Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant is funding the project.

Rugged terrain and steep grades currently hallmark Mill Creek Highway.

Schedule

The project is currently in the design phase and will be delivered as a Design-Build project through MDT Alternative Contracting. MDT and HDR are currently working on the Phase 1 portion of the project, which includes approximately 50% design and right-of-way authorization occurring during 2025 and early 2026. The project will then be advertised, and MDT will select a Design-Build team to complete the design and construction of the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.

Stay Informed, Stay Involved

Stakeholder and public feedback are encouraged throughout all project phases to ensure MDT identifies a solution that best meets the traffic and safety needs of the community and those who travel the roadway.
