Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is planning to replace aging timber bridges on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake at Groom, Hall, and Six Mile Creek (mile markers 71, 71.5, 77 respectively) with new concrete box culverts. The timber bridges are nearing the end of their service life. The project will also include reconstruction of the roadway approaches. This work is part of MDT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and dependable infrastructure across Montana.

Project Updates

Updated 4/27/26
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. continue building the detour at Six Mile Creek and working at Hall Creek, weather and other factors permitting. Drivers can expect single lane traffic, reduced speeds to 35 mph, temporary signals, and a pilot car. Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The project is anticipated to be complete in August 2026.
