The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. continue working on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake on the Six Mile Creek structure (mile marker 77) and traffic is being detoured with a 14-foot width restriction. There will be intermittent pilot cars during working hours, which are tentatively scheduled for Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. During non-working hours, the detour will be controlled by temporary signals. A box culvert is being installed and then roadwork will begin at Six Mile Creek.
Drivers should expect areas of loose gravel, one-lane traffic, pilot cars, and reduced speeds of 25 mph through the work zone. Wide loads over the 14-foot width restriction should take alternate routes. All activities are dependent on weather and other unforeseen factors. Work on MT 83 near Swan Lake is tentatively scheduled to complete by mid-October.

During non-working hours, the detour will be controlled by temporary signals. Most of the work is at Hall Creek, but some roadwork may also take place at Groom Creek (mile marker 71).

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. resumed construction this week on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake at Groom Creek, Hall Creek, and Six Mile Creek (mile markers 71, 71.5, and 77, respectively).
Work was temporarily suspended last month due to high water levels but will now move forward as conditions allow.

Once the waters recede, construction will resume, tentatively in early July.
June 8, 2026
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. anticipate resuming construction this week on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) near Swan Lake at Groom, Hall, and Six Mile Creek (mile markers 71, 71.5, 77 respectively). Crews will be grading and building detours. The work zone may encompass two or three bridges, with pilot cars and 15-minute delays at each work zone.
The scheduled work shift is Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and longer hours may be utilized if needed to keep the project on schedule.
The project is anticipated to be completed in August 2026.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. will pave road connections and private driveway entrances on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) between mile markers 77.4 to 77.1 and 71.9 to 71.3 (Six Mile Creek and Hall Creek, respectively) up to the state property line, also known as the right of way. Farm field entrances will be paved for the first 12 feet beyond the highway shoulder, with gravel used beyond that point.
Mailboxes located within the construction areas will be replaced as part of the project. This includes two mailboxes in the northern section and 15 in the southern section.
Mailbox pullout areas next to the highway will also be paved in certain locations. Two pullouts in the northern section and four in the southern section are planned to receive pavement improvements.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc. continue building the detour at Six Mile Creek and working at Hall Creek, weather and other factors permitting. Drivers can expect single lane traffic, reduced speeds to 35 mph, temporary signals, and a pilot car. Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The project is anticipated to be complete in August 2026.
