Montana Department of Transportation Proposes Reconstruction Project on Secondary Route 548 (Old Reserve Drive) Northwest of Kalispell
Kalispell — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to rebuild about 3.0 miles of Secondary Route 548 (Old Reserve Drive), northwest of the City of Kalispell. The project begins at the intersection with Secondary Route 424 (Farm to Market Road), at reference post 0.0, and extends easterly for 3 miles, ending at the roundabout at Stillwater Rd. at reference post 3.0.
Proposed work includes realigning the horizontal and vertical roadway alignments, widening the top surface to include 8-foot shoulders, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip seal), new pavement markings and signage. The purpose of the project is to bring this Major Collector route up to current design standards to provide a safer roadway.
The public can expect single-lane closures in the project area during working hours. More information regarding closures will be made available prior to the beginning of construction.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2024 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially affected landowners prior to performing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
