Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is designing plans to reconstruct approximately three miles of Old Reserve Drive northwest of Kalispell. This project begins at the intersection of Old Reserve Drive with Farm to Market Road and ends just west of the intersection with Stillwater Road. Planned improvements include:

  • Reconstructing and realigning nearly three miles of Old Reserve Drive.
  • Building eight-foot shoulders and flattening the slopes on each side of the road.
  • Adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips.
  • Reducing the grade (steepness) of vertical hills.

Project Background

This section of Old Reserve Drive has a history of crashes and steadily increasing Average Daily Traffic Volumes. The goal of this project is to reduce the potential occurrence and severity of crashes in the project area and to provide a new driving surface to last well into the future.
