October 18, 2021

US 93 Lakeside North and South Finished Crossing
  • Work on US 93 project near Lakeside and Somers completed for 2021.
  • Due to persistent cold weather conditions in the forecast, work on the project will be paused until next spring.
  • Work is now completed for the year. The contractor is expected to resume construction in spring 2022.
  • Remaining work in 2022 includes:
    • Adding rumble strips.
    • Adding the final epoxy paint to the pavement markings.
    • Sealing cracks in the roadway.

October 1, 2021

  • Work on US 93 near Lakeside and Somers is substantially complete.
  • Crews finished painting the temporary pavement markings and swept the roadway through the project area this week (10/1).
  • Remaining work includes:
    • Adding rumble strips and installing signage beginning in the next couple of weeks.
    • Adding the final epoxy paint to the pavement markings near the end of October.
  • The remaining work is expected to take a few days to complete.
  • During rumble strip and painting work:
    • Two lanes of traffic will remain open.
    • Traffic will be directed around equipment installing the rumble strips.
    • Expect slower traffic and reduced speed limits where crews are working.
    • Plan an extra 15 to 30 minutes of travel time through the project area in case of heavy traffic volumes.

September 27, 2021

  • Crews are painting new pavement markings on US 93 near Lakeside and Somers.
  • Crews will begin painting work on Monday (9/27) around 10:30 a.m. The work is expected to take a couple of days to complete (depending on weather).
  • During the painting work:
    • Two lanes will remain open through the work zone.
    • Expect slower traffic and reduced speed limits where crews are working.
    • Plan an extra 15 to 30 minutes of travel time through the project area in case of heavy traffic volumes.
  • The resurfacing work that smoothed out the travel lanes and added a new layer of asphalt has been completed.

  • The resurfacing work which smoothed out the travel lanes and added a new layer of asphalt has been completed. The highway has reopened to two lanes of traffic.
  • What's next?
  • Crews will return to the area next week to paint new pavement markings. The project will be completed after rumble strips are added to the new asphalt in a couple of weeks. The remaining work is expected to take only a few days to complete.
  • During the rumble strip and painting work:
    • Two lanes will remain open with pilot cars directing traffic past the work zone.
    • Expect 15- to 30-minute delays through the work zone.

  • Weekend Work Schedule
  • No construction on Monday (9/20) due to weather. Work is expected to resume on Tuesday (9/21) as long as the weather is warm and dry enough to allow the asphalt to cure properly.
  • The contractor is planning to work from 8:30 a.m. up until nearly dark every day (Monday - Sunday) depending on weather.
  • During construction:
    • The contractor is planning to work from 8:30 a.m. up until nearly dark every day (Monday - Sunday) depending on weather.
    • During the day motorists should expect traffic to be reduced to one lane.
    • Pilot cars will direct traffic through the work zone.
    • Expect 1-hour delays through the work zone.
    • The road will reopen to two lanes at night.

September 17, 2021

  • Weekend Work Schedule
  • Saturday (9/18) - Crews are planning to work Saturday as long as the weather is warm and dry enough to allow the asphalt to cure properly.
  • Sunday (9/19) - Crews will not work on Sunday due to forecasted weather.
  • Construction began on September 7th and is expected to only take a couple of weeks to complete depending on weather delays.
  • During construction:
    • Work is anticipated to begin at 8:30 a.m., and end before dark each day, Monday - Sunday.
    • During the day motorists should expect traffic to be reduced to one lane.
    • Pilot cars will direct traffic through the work zone.
    • Expect 1-hour delays through the work zone.
    • The road will reopen to two lanes at night.

September 9, 2021

  • Crews began resurfacing the southbound lane on US 93 beginning near Somers this week. The resurfacing work must take place during the day in order to allow warmer temperatures to cure the micro-surfaced asphalt properly.
  • Work will begin after 8:30 a.m. to allow morning school and commuter traffic through the work zone. Work may also take place on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Construction is expected to only take a couple of weeks to complete depending on weather.
  • During construction:
    • Work is anticipated to take place during daylight hours beginning at 8:30 a.m., Monday - Sunday.
    • During the day motorists should expect traffic to be reduced to one lane.
    • Pilot cars will direct traffic through the work zone.
    • Expect 1 hour delays through the work zone.
    • The road will reopen to two lanes at night.

September 1, 2021

  • Crews are expected to resume work on US 93 starting on Tuesday, September 7 following the Labor Day weekend.
  • On Tuesday (9/7), workers will begin removing pavement markings from the roadway. Expect minor delays.
  • On Wednesday (9/8), crews will begin resurfacing the pavement. The new asphalt will provide a smooth driving surface and extend the life of the roadway. The resurfacing work is expected to only take a couple of weeks to complete depending on weather.
  • Working from the north to the south, crews will resurface the southbound lane then move over to the northbound lane.
  • During construction:
    • Work is anticipated to take place during daylight hours beginning at 8:30 a.m., Monday - Saturday.
    • During the day motorists should expect traffic to be reduced to one lane.
    • Pilot cars will direct traffic through the work zone.
    • Expect 30 minute delays through the work zone.
    • The road will reopen to two lanes at night.

June 18, 2021

  • Resurfacing on the Lakeside North and South Project has been postponed until September.
  • MDT initially planned to complete the roadway resurfacing in June. However, weather conditions have not allowed the contractor enough time to complete the work in June.
  • MDT is choosing to postpone the remaining work until September to allow for better weather conditions and to reduce traffic congestion during construction.
  • For the work to resume, the contractor will need 2-3 weeks of consistently warm and dry weather (day and nighttime). The warm and dry weather allows the pavement to properly cure.
  • What's ahead?
    MDT anticipates the work will begin sometime after Labor Day and be completed in September. The work is dependent on weather conditions.

May 6, 2021

  • The first phase of milling (removing old pavement) and filling (adding new pavement) of problem areas is on schedule to be completed this week. Sidewalk ramp work in Lakeside has been completed.
  • Crews are paving in the northbound lane of US 93 this week (5/3 – 5/6).
    • Expect alternating single-lane traffic through Thursday, May 6.
  • What's next?
  • Next week (5/10/21) crews will be working on the sides of the highway installing signs and roadside markers (delineators).
    • Speed limit will be reduced but minimal traffic impacts are anticipated for this work.
  • What's ahead?
  • The contractor will begin the second phase of paving once temperatures warm up a bit more. The second phase will add a top layer of pavement to the full length of the project area. The work is expected to take a few weeks to complete and is very weather dependent.
    • Traffic will be reduced to single-lane through the work zone.
    • Work will start on the north end of the project area (near Old US Highway 93).
    • Crews will work in the southbound lane.
    • Once the southbound lane is complete, work will switch to the northbound lane, again working from north to the south.
    • Upgrade work on the ADA ramps at the corners of Bierney Creek Road and Adams Street in Lakeside will also begin.
  • Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time through the construction zone.

April 26, 2021

  • Initial milling and paving work on Highway 93 is anticipated to begin late this week (April 29-30).
    • Work will start on the north end of the project area (near Old US Highway 93).
    • Crews will work in the southbound lane.
    • Once the southbound lane is complete, work will switch to the northbound lane, again working from north to the south.
    • Upgrade work on the ADA ramps at the corners of Bierney Creek Road and Adams Street in Lakeside will also begin.
  • All work is weather dependent.
  • What to expect:
    • Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the daytime.
    • Pilot cars and flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.
    • Speed limits will be reduced.
    • Expect 15 minute delays through the work zone.
    • Traffic will return to two lanes at night.
    • Access on to the newly laid asphalt surface will be restricted for 20-30 minutes.
  • Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time through the construction zone.
