Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) plans to widen and reconstruct the Ash Street bridge over Big Spring Creek in Lewistown through the Walnut & Ash Improvements project. The project also includes plans to enhance safety and improve pedestrian access on the north side of Walnut and Ash Streets.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Replacing and widening the Ash Street bridge over Big Spring Creek with the addition of a five-foot pedestrian walkway.
  • Constructing a new sidewalk and curb and gutter on the north side of Walnut and Ash Streets between Casino Creek Drive and the tennis court parking lot.
  • Minor roadway modifications to accommodate a roadside barrier and transition the new sidewalk and bridge to the existing roadway.

This project is currently in the early design phase with construction anticipated to begin in 2029, depending on completion of design and availability of funding.

DOWL is the engineering consultant for this project.
