The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) submitted an MPDG (Rural) grant application in May 2024 to fund the replacement of the Missouri River Bridge at Fort Benton on MT-80, in Chouteau County. This bridge serves as the principal river crossing between Fort Benton and the rich agricultural lands of the Judith Basin to the southeast. As part of the area’s primary farm to market road, and a designated oversized load corridor, the 708-foot-long Fort Benton bridge represents a critical structure for local and regional agricultural-based economies.
