The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and United Materials, Inc. have completed surface work on the Great Falls Urban Pavement Preservation project.

Temporary roadway striping is now in place. Permanent epoxy striping is expected to be installed in the next month or so, depending on weather and other unforeseen factors.

Crews will also repaint the crosswalks at the intersection of 1st Avenue North and River Drive North in the coming weeks. There will be minor lane closures and traffic control for the permanent epoxy and crosswalk painting operations.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and United Materials, Inc. are preparing to complete the final sealing and striping of the Great Falls Urban Pavement Preservation project. Weather and other factors permitting, work will begin this week and continue through the following week.

This final phase of project work includes preparing the road surface, applying seal and cover (scrub) and fog seals, sweeping loose material away, and painting permanent roadway markings.

Crews will begin by cleaning the roadway and sealing cracks. After that, they will apply scrub and fog seals on several streets, including 2nd Street South, 6th Street North, and River Drive North. Once the sealing is complete, crews will sweep up loose materials and finish with roadway striping.

6th Street North and 3rd Avenue South will be temporarily closed to through traffic during sealing. Parking areas along River Drive North will also be closed while fog seal work is underway and will reopen once the surface has cured. Please plan ahead and follow detour signs when closures are in place.

Once complete, the project will extend the lifespan of several urban corridors, improve surface conditions, and enhance visibility and safety through new pavement markings and signage.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and United Materials have paused resurfacing work for the winter on approximately 3 miles of roadway in five locations in urban Great Falls.

This year, crews have completed pavement preservation of River Drive North and Park Drive North and curb reconstructions at the southwest corner of Park Drive North and 6th Street North and where the River’s Edge Trail crosses River Drive North.

Crews will return next summer to scrub seal 3rd Avenue South, 6th Street North, and 2nd Street South. MDT will provide notification of expected traffic control and start dates next June, weather and other factors permitting.

When traveling during construction season, watch for the “cone zone” and workers in the roadway. Crews spend their days working a short distance from moving vehicles, and while they make every effort to work safely, they count on you to pay attention, slow down, and be careful as you pass through a work zone.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and United Materials are continuing work to resurface approximately 3 miles of roadway in five locations in urban Great Falls.

This week, crews will continue pouring concrete to raise drains and manhole covers to the level of the new asphalt on River Drive North and Park Drive North. River Drive North will still be restricted to one lane traveling northbound, and Park Drive North will be restricted to one lane traveling southbound.

Crews are also working on curb reconstructions at the southwest corner of Park Drive North and 6th Street North and where the River’s Edge Trail crosses River Drive North. Travelers should expect shoulder and sidewalk closures at both locations.

This week, crews will work on pouring concrete to raise drains and manhole covers to the level of the new asphalt on River Drive and Park Drive. River Drive will still be restricted to one lane traveling northbound, and Park Drive will be restricted to one lane traveling southbound. This will remain through the weekend as concrete cures.

While work occurs, travelers should expect reduced speeds, single-lane closures, and intersection closures. Specific sections may be temporarily closed, and travelers may need to take alternate routes.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and United Materials are continuing work to resurface approximately 3 miles of roadway in five locations in urban Great Falls.

This week, crews will finish milling and paving the remaining lanes of River Drive North and Park Drive North, with traffic shifted to the newly paved lanes. River Drive will still be restricted to one lane traveling northbound, and Park Drive will be restricted to one lane traveling southbound. Both routes will be fully open on the weekends.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner, Wickens Construction, continue construction on the Fairview West project.

This week, crews will continue paving Montana Highway 201 (MT 201).

Paving activities are expected to continue for the next two to three weeks, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Motorists are traveling on the new roadway alignment and should expect loose gravel, pilot cars, fresh oil on the roadway, 35 mph speed zones, single-lane traffic, and crews working along the shoulders.

MDT and Wickens Construction will maintain traffic flow but rely on you to keep roadway crews safe. Please slow down and pay attention to workers and signage when traveling through an active work zone.
