Study Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will be conducting a study to identify improvement options for the existing Vandalia Rest Area. The rest area is located on US Highway 2 (US 2) approximately 14.5 miles west of Glasgow.

The study presents an opportunity to enhance safety features, improve operations, and extend the service life of one of MDT’s oldest and most remote rest areas.

The goal of the study is to evaluate the cost effectiveness of two potential improvement options, including restoring the existing facility or converting it to a truck parking area. Restoration of the current rest area would include improved amenities. Conversion to a truck parking area would replace the current facility with vaulted toilets and a modified parking lot.
