Real Estate Section Services (RESS)

RESS manages MDT’s excess lands from the time property title transfers to the State until final disposal. Responsibilities include maintaining acquired improvements, overseeing occupancy and rentals, and coordinating the sale, lease, or demolition of property no longer needed for MDT operations. RESS provides statewide oversight, technical guidance, and policy direction, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and with 23 CFR 710, Subpart D governing federally funded real property.

*Excess land refers to MDT‑owned property not required for highway or maintenance purposes. This includes:
*Excess right‑of‑way: Property within project right‑of‑way limits that is no longer needed.
*Excess land: Property outside right‑of‑way limits that is not required for MDT activities.
