These additional milling and paving operations are required because the top layer of asphalt applied in one section of the project last fall failed to meet MDT’s standards. MDT is continually testing the materials used on Montana’s roadways to ensure they are the highest quality, will withstand our harsh climate, and provide a smooth driving surface for decades to come. If a material fails to meet MDT’s standards, it is removed, and new material is installed. This occurred only in one section. While we understand this causes more disruptions, it is critical that we keep Montana moving forward by using only the very best materials that will last for years to come.

March 17, 2023

This week, Riverside Contracting will continue excavating operations on the east side of the roadway and fill operations on the west side of US Highway 93 (US 93).

A new approach to Lake Seed from US 93 is also being constructed in preparation for the closure of Spring Creek Road at US 93 later this year. North of the US 93 and Round Butte Road/Terrace Lake Road intersection, across from Dairy Queen, crews are also constructing a new storm drain.

Due to these activities, drivers should expect increased truck traffic as materials are being hauled throughout the project area.

Traffic will continue to travel on the current highway during this first phase of construction.

Drivers should plan for short delays when traveling through the project area. Traffic control, including traffic lights and flaggers, will be in place, and speeds reduced.

Riverside Contracting crews will continue to work double shifts, weather permitting. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Going forward, crews will also work on Saturdays, as conditions allow, to progress the project quickly.

Remember the three Ss of work zone safety when traveling through the construction zone: speed, space, and stress. Slow down when approaching work zones and follow posted speed limits. Leave adequate braking room between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. Keep your cool, pay attention, and plan for delays.

Roadwork will begin next week on the Ronan-North US Highway 93 (US 93) project! Construction will be completed in three phases, starting with widening the west half of the road to include two new southbound lanes.

Traffic will continue to travel on the current highway during the first phase of construction.

In phase two, the northbound lanes will be constructed on the east side of the highway. During this phase, drivers will be traveling on a gravel surface. In preparation for this phase, excavating operations will also begin this week on the east side next to the highway.

Crews will also be installing culverts throughout the project area. Construction of a new approach off US 93 for Lake Seed will begin in preparation for the closure of Spring Creek Road at US 93 later this year.
