The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) submitted a RAISE grant application in February 2024 for funding for Mullan Road Reconstruction project. This project will address growing safety concerns at this location. The limits of the project have been identified as performing at a Level of Service of Safety LOSS IV indicating a severe safety issue with a high potential for crash reduction. The project will increase safety by adding 6-foot-wide roadway shoulders, flattening side slopes, replacing guardrails, and updating pavement markings, signing, and fencing. Safety will also be improved by bringing the clear zone up to standards and integrating improved horizontal and vertical curve alignments. Additionally, this project will construct a separated 10-foot shared use path (SUP) that will support safe travel for non-motorists in the corridor.
