The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in collaboration with KLJ Engineering, continues to advance design work for the Airport Road and U.S. Highway 93 (US 93) intersection at the southern end of the Kalispell Bypass (Bypass).
The Kalispell Bypass is an evolving transportation infrastructure project that plays an essential role in how residents and visitors travel in the Flathead Valley.
The planned design for the Bypass at Airport Road, located just north of the Basecamp Drive intersection, will include a new interchange similar to the one completed at Foys Lake Road in 2022. The existing roundabout at the US 93 and Airport Road intersection will be removed and replaced with a double-roundabout interchange featuring an overpass, four access ramps, and two roundabouts where the ramps connect with Airport Road. Additionally, Cemetery Road will be realigned to connect with the roundabout on the east side of the Bypass. The Bypass and the Ashley Creek South bridge will be widened to four lanes.
The Bypass and southern US 93 intersection will be improved to include dual northbound left-turn lanes on US 93, doubling turning capacity for vehicles accessing the Kalispell Bypass. In addition, the design will include a merge acceleration lane on US 93 for vehicles turning south from the bypass onto US 93 towards Somers. The design will also include a southbound right-turn lane on US 93 to enter the bypass.
Funding for construction has not yet been identified for either project. A construction timeline will be set once funding is secured and the project design is completed.

Multiple projects have been completed and others are currently in progress on the Kalispell Bypass (KBP). This webpage is a home base for all these separate projects. The Foys Lake Road Interchange project was finished in 2022. Currently, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and its partner KLJ Engineering are working on the design for the Airport Road Interchange and US Highway 93 (US 93) Intersection project segment at the southern end of the Bypass. This will impact the Basecamp Drive intersection. However, no reconfiguration modifications are proposed at this time for the Basecamp Drive roundabout.
